All GP practices are contracted to provide “essential services”, that is, basic treatment of ill people. This practice is keen to offer a wide range of services to our patients and we are dedicated to promoting good health and provide family-centred medical care. We are grateful for the co-operation of our patients and hope that we can continue to work with them to achieve good health for all.
Cryotherapy
This involves the freezing of warts and other small skin lesions.
Family Planning
All doctors provide contraceptive services including emergency contraception. It is important to be seen within 72 hours of any potential contraceptive failure or omission.
Maternity Care
All doctors are happy to provide full antenatal and postnatal care. Our nurse practitioner, Kate, is also a midwife and is happy to provide antenatal checks and discuss any concerns around midwifery issues.
Cervical Smears
These are usually taken by the nurse team.
Child Health Surveillance
This is currently provided by Drs Rawcliffe, Kapur and Guest.
Childhood Immunisations
Parents/guardians of children will receive notifications via the local community health services when immunisations are due. Immunisations are essential to protect children from serious illness. Immunisations are given by practice nurses and health visitors according to the immunisation schedule.
Appointments can be made with the practice nurse.
Abortion Counselling And Referral
This is provided by Drs Davies, Kapur, Guest and Watson.
We also hold contracts with West Hull Primary Care Trust to provide the following “Enhanced Services”:
- Teenage Health Clinic - This clinic is run by Dr Davies along with our Nurse Practitioner, Sister Kate Nicoll.
- Substance Abuse Clinic - This clinic is run by Drs Davies and Rawcliffe.
- An annual flu immunization programme to protect the elderly and those at risk
- Regular monitoring, by blood and urine tests, for patients on a range of drugs for arthritis and bowel problems
- Minor surgery, such as joint injections and removal of small lesions. This is carried out by all the doctors. Joint injections are done by Drs Greene and Guest.
- Childhood immunisations
- Fitting and checking of intra-uterine contraceptive devices
- Contraceptive implants
Ante- And Post-Natal Care Information
We aim to provide you with all the information you will need both during pregnancy and after the birth of your baby. Please ask at reception for a copy of our leaflet which tells you the roles of the GP, community midwife, health visitor and hospital clinics in the provision of ante- and post-natal care.
New Patient Checks
All new patients are invited to have an initial health check to enable us to obtain details of past medical problems and to provide better care.
Over 75 Check
We offer a check up to over 75s. If you would like one please contact the surgery to arrange a suitable appointment.
Non-NHS Services
We are happy to undertake, by appointment, medical examinations, reports for insurance companies, employers and solicitors. These services are not covered by the NHS and a fee recommended by the British Medical Association (BMA) will be charged. For further information about these fees please contact the surgery.
Please note that NHS services take precedence over non-NHS services when resources are limited and this may cause a delay.
Sickness Certificates
If you are absent from work due to illness for less than seven working days you need to obtain a form SC2 from your employer or the DSS. If, after seven days, you are still unwell you will need to see a doctor who may then issue a medical certificate. For illnesses of less than seven days, a private certificate can be issued, if your company requires one. A fee is payable for this item. A form SC1, required by the self-employed, can be obtained from the surgery.
Practice Nurses
Our nurses have received additional training to help them help you look after your health and are available to discuss any problems regarding your health. Their duties will routinely include:
- Health checks and advice
- Childhood immunisations
- Management of diet and weight loss
- Diabetes, asthma, blood pressure review
- Dressings, stitch removal, ear syringing
- Family planning and sexual health advice (including cervical smear tests)
- Travel injections and advice
- Smoking cessation clinics
All these services and more are carried out by the practice nurses. Please make an appointment between 8.30am and 6.00pm.
Health Visitor
The health visitor runs a Child Health Clinic on a Wednesday afternoon at the surgery from 1.30 – 4.00pm and an Early Days Clinic on a Thursday from 1.30 – 3.00pm.
Citizens Advice Bureau
The Citizens Advice Bureau presently has an arrangement with New Hall Surgery whereby you can access an advisor each week within the surgery. Appointments may be made for Tuesday mornings. Advice can be sought on benefits, welfare rights and many other topics. Please call at reception to make an appointment.
Drug and Alcohol
The surgery works closely with Community Drug and Alcohol teams. We have specialised workers who take referrals from the doctors.
Mental Health Counsellors
The surgery works with our partner agencies to provide a range of counselling services to our patients. Your doctor will offer advice.
Podiatry
Would patients please note that although Podiatry operate a service from a room at the surgery they are not in fact part of our staff. All queries must be addressed to the service providers themselves on (01482) 343499.
